Dia Beacon, Arts Education Program: “Life Cycles in All Things”

Location: Dia Beacon and South Avenue Elementary School

Date: Spring 2022

Ages: 2nd Grade

The Arts Education Program (AEP) is a partnership program facilitated by Dia Beacon that pairs artist educators with local Beacon City School District classrooms. Each season of AEP is comprised of six sessions with a local school, which take place both on site in the classroom and in person, as well as a culminating exhibition of student work. In season’s curriculum, titled “Life Cycles in All Things”, students explored key words and ideas such as “change”, “impermanence”, “decomposition”, and “regeneration”, and placed them in context with all entities on this planet. They engaged with this theme by reflecting on their personal experiences, making observations, interacting with artwork, and by engaging in hands-on art making activities.
